2021 Gladiator EcoDiesel to Arrive

Brought to You by Gillman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram

When the Gladiator arrived on the scene, Jeep solidified its ranking as the most capable off-roading vehicle brand! The Gladiator took over the mid-size pickup truck segment as the most capable model both on and off the road and it is only becoming more capable for the 2021 model year with the introduction of the EcoDiesel engine. Boosting the most torque and the best driving range, this engine is about to change the game again. Keep on reading below as we dig into what this engine means for the 2021 Jeep Gladiator!

What makes this engine so great?

The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel turbocharged V6 found under the hood of the 2021 Gladiator is Jeep's third generation of this engine. Jeep heard that Gladiator drivers were asking for an engine that would deliver more horsepower and torque, outstanding fuel economy, and reduced levels of harshness, noise and vibration. This EcoDiesel engine does all that and so much more! There were some significant changes made to this engine to make sure that it would seamlessly work with the Gladiator while improving the fuel efficiency and power. Some of these changes and improvements include a 0.3-millimeter offset of the piston pin and low-friction diamond-like carbon coating of the lightweight aluminum alloy pistons to reduce the noise, vibrations and harshness. Jeep also redesigned the combustion chamber and high-pressure direct-injection fuel injector nozzles for optimization.

How much power does the engine create?

The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel turbocharged V6 engine under the hood of the Gladiator can pump out up to 442 pound-feet of torque and 260 horsepower. The Gladiator's fuel economy is enhanced and its greenhouse gases are reduced with standard engine start/stop technology. The transmission match for this engine is an 8-speed automatic that has been geared for larger torque loads and low RPM shifts that come about in both on and off-roading situations.

What else can you tell me about the Gladiator's capabilities?

Each Gladiator that is powered by the EcoDiesel engine is ready to take on any terrain or weather thanks to a host of 4x4 capabilities. The Gladiator is offered in three trim levels and they all come outfitted with Dana 44 3rd-generation front and rear heavy duty axles and a 3.73 axle ratio. The Rubicon model takes off-roading up a notch with Rock-Trac, a two-speed transfer case that boasts a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio. The other two trim levels, the Sport and Overland, get their own transfer-case, this time a part-time two-speed that delivers a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio that is called Command-Trac.
